Project overview.

What?

An application that incorporates a recipe generator and weekly meal planner to help organize meals more efficiently in the steps of planning, shopping and cooking.

For whom?

Busy full-time or part-time workers that share their living space and household chores with one or more family member.

How?

To tackle common frustrations of not knowing what to cook by generating recipe ideas from leftover ingredients. By creating a visually easy-to-modify meal agenda.

During the usability tests, users expressed a set of feedbacks that informed the iteration:

  • the logic and order of meal planning they expect to see and navigate (ex. first creating a database of recipes, then selecting them to apply on certain week days

  • the misleading captions and labeling of call-to-action buttons

  • more links to resources that already exist online, like google maps or youtube

What I’ve learned

As it being my first UX case study, the development of Co-kochen as enriched my understanding of user-centered design and the complexity of creating effective digital experiences. Some of my key learnings include:

  1. that UX Design is a constant process of iteration. Continuous testing, incorporate feedback and refinements are critical to create designs that evolve to meet user demands.

  2. the importance of approaching the challenges holistically. The targeted design problem has multiple dimensions, and considering user needs, the context when in the app is in use (inc. technical constraints) are crucial in finding an effective solution.
